HIDEAWAY # 1
While travelling along a road between the town of Ullapool and village of Scourie in the
Scottish highlands I stumbled across this hideaway. A beautiful croft just off the main road
engulfed by trees and vegetation. It was so well camouflaged that I nearly missed it, only
spotting it last moment as I drove by.
Places like this are a gem to a photographer, rich in tradition, weathered by time and unaffected
by the modern world. They are living artifacts drenched in history and therefore
deserve to be treated with the utmost respect. I had been praying for some heavy skies that
week which always help to bring mood to my pictures. My prayers were certainly answered
that day. Dark defined clouds moving in from the coast, heavily laden with rain.
I remember climbing into bed that night feeling totally fulfilled. I believe that images like
this don’t just happen; every now and then they are assiduously revealed to the artist. This
picture to me was beyond question, a moment of Grace. |
