City life # 1
Within the photography there is juxtaposition at play. Here we see how a figure of art on the wall is offering “streetwise” advice to a schoolgirl who is passing by. She is instructed by the stature to look, an instruction of encouragement, to which she duly responds. Capturing this picture was pure good fortune. While preparing for an exhibition in May 2008 I was working on my “Urban Reflection” series. I was attempting to capture a shot with the graffiti on the wall when some school children came walking up the pathway. One girl was straggling behind the rest and as she pasted I took a picture without looking through the viewfinder of the camera. Only later in post-production did I see the shot. What a delight.
